About the purple 100
Where were you on April 21st 2016, when the news broke that Prince had passed away?

What do you do being a Radio DJ and your favorite artist dies? You want to go 'on air' as fast as you can to pay your respect and deal with your emotions. That's how the Purple 100 originated. Exactly one year after Prince's passing this chart has been compiled for the first time based on the listeners' votes. You'll find that chart on this website. In 2021 we made another Purple 100.

Now, ten years later, we do it again. Because we're a mission to keep promoting the musical legacy of Prince in The Netherlands. We needed your help to make the Purple 100 as it's based on your vote.

The longlist contains of virtaully all singles that have ever been release somewhere, and the most relevant album tracks, b-sides and what have you. Also, music released by the Prince's spin-off artists are in the list. We did not include cover version, neither covers that have been recorded by Prince, nor covers of Prince songs recorded by other artists. The longlist contains more music than five years ago because of the new releases in the past years.

Thanks for voting for your favorite Prince songs!

Djs
Melle Tuik
Still being a student Melle did his first radio show on Omroep Rijnland (Leiden & Bollenstreek) in 1986, and later at Holland Centraal (where he became the chief editor). He started his professional career in HR, while his radio work took him to Rob Stenders’ KX Radio, the XXL Bonanza stream, Ice Radio, and Sleutelstad FM. He's currently news anchor at Radio West. In 1981 he heard Controversy and fell in love with this new wave of danceable funk. He stayed true to this love and even had the Love Symbol on his wedding card. Melle has been to at least 15 to 20 Prince show in the Netherlands and abroad, and visited Paisley Park in Minneapolis in 2018. He's still a little sad that he's no longer with us...
Mark Berendsen
Is Kink 80s weekdays 4pm - 6pm. He has been radio DJ Since 1984 at City Radio (Hilversum), Digitaal FM (Baarn), Decibel Radio (Amsterdam), Radio 10, RTL Radio, KINK FM, and KX Radio. Next to that Mark has been MD of Yorin FM en RTL FM, and he has been Commercial Director of the Sky Radio Group. More important is that he is a Prince fan since he first heard the single Controversy. The first Prince show he visited was during the Parade Tour in Ahoy' Rotterdam in 1986 and after that at least 20 more shows followed. He lost count. Mark's mission is to share the love for Prince and play his music where and when it's possible.
